In X-Ray Mana, I’ve drawn inspiration from Hawaii’s legendary surf culture, channeling the spirit of iconic wave riders like Duke Kahanamoku, Kelly Slater, and the fearless grace of modern heroes like Coco Ho and John John Florence—whom I’ve had the pleasure to collaborate with in elaborate photo shoots. This project was born out of my fascination with the hidden energy beneath the surface, where every surfer’s soul meets the raw power of the ocean. These X-ray visions capture that essence—bones and motion intertwined in a dance with the waves, offering a comic-like feel that blends fashion with anatomical portrait studies. It’s surf reimagined through a lens that merges art, anatomy, and style.
My fascination with the almost forgotten texture of film negatives also played a key role in shaping X-Ray Mana. That grainy, elusive quality is challenging to reproduce in AI, but it evokes a sense of nostalgia and depth that continues to intrigue me. Though I may not ride the waves like these brave warriors, the water is where I feel most at home. As an Aquarian, I’ve ventured into award-winning underwater photography with unconventional, often 'drownable' objects. X-Ray Mana felt like a natural progression, combining my love for surf culture with a fresh take on the human form. The images mix a sense of fashion with the anatomy of the surfer, blending bold lines and ethereal details that give a striking yet whimsical feel. It's a project that stretches the boundaries of both art and AI, transforming the familiar into something surreal and captivating.
